Designed and manufactured the W.A FRANCIS Aerospace division in 1941, the P-119 was developed for the United States Navy as a all purpose light dive bomber/fighter aircraft. It saw heavy usage during the war having some notable combat in battles such as Midway, Coral Sea, and Wake Island. Unlike other fleet attack aircraft, the P-119 is smaller and does not feature a rear facing cannon. Although it was smaller in size, it was designed to carry up to four bombs which allowed the aircraft to make one heavy strike or multiple strikes if needed. During wartime the P-119 earned itself the nickname “Kingfisher” due to its small size and precision dive bombing runs. The P-119 Kingfisher served the US military for 11 years and was retired on October 3, 1952.
