Gloster Meteor was a British bi-jet fighter plane and the only Allied aircraft to go into action before the end of World War II. Designed by W. George Carter of the Gloster Aircraft Company, development began in November 1940 and made its first flight on March 5, 1943. At first, the plane was designated "Thunderbolt", but to avoid confusion with the fighter jet. the North American Republic P-47 propeller, its name was changed to "Meteor".
After the Germans invented the first jet planes, it was the British who improved air technology by creating it. The first 7 of the 20 units of the Gloster Meteor F 1 ordered by the RAF were delivered in the first days of July 1944. On the 27th of the same month, they were tested in the German V-1 flying bomb fighter, over the English Channel, with relative success.

The improved Gloster Meteor F 3 were delivered to the RAF in January 1945. They took off for the first time for combat action from Brussels airport on April 16, 1945, with the task of intercepting German jet fighters Messerschmitt Me 262. However, this historic encounter in the heavens never took place. The supervenience of peace took away from the Gloster Meteor the possibility of being put to the test, even in World War II.

3,947 units of the Gloster Meteor were manufactured and remained in production until 1954. It was the first combat jet of several air forces in the world. It also operated in the air forces of Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Egypt, Israel, Syria and Sweden. It was the first British aircraft equipped with an ejection seat (since the F 8 version of 1948).

The first South American customer was the Argentine Air Force (FAA), which in 1947 received 100 aircraft. These faced each other in the coup d'état that overthrew the government of Juan Domingo Peron in September 1955.
