McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle
F-15 EAGLE
The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is a twin-engine all-weather fighter designed by the American company McDonnell Douglas [since 1997 integrated into Boeing] to gain and maintain air superiority in aerial combat. It is considered to be one of the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in close air combat.
Its first flight was made in July 1972, and it entered service in 1976. The Eagle was also exported to Israel, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. Despite originally being conceived as a pure fighter, the design proved flexible enough that a two-seat all-weather attack derivative, the F-15E Strike Eagle, was later developed., which entered service in 1989. The United States Air Force intends to keep the F-15 Eagle in service until the year 2025.
