1). Designed By: Ilysuhin

2). Year Introduced: Directive for ASW craft issued in 1960. First prototype took flight in 1961. Production began in 1967 and ceased in 1972 when the Tu-95 was introduced.

3). Design Overview:

the Il-38 was based almost entirely on the Il-18. It used the same fuselage that had been lengthened, as well as the same engine nacelles and flight deck. The original design included a MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detector) in the tail boom used to track submarines and other naval vessels as well as a radar system housed in a bulbous dish below the nose. The Il-38N also includes a new nose mounted FLIR and a FLINT, or Flight Intelligence unit installed in a box above the fuselage.

As Always
I've been on a bit of a hiatus as of late thanks to Gaben and his steam sale, but I am back and have at lease one more project up my sleeve. This bird needs a smidge of trim for level flight but once shes at altitude, its all smooth sailing. Or flying. Or whatever. Anyway, Please let me know if you have suggestions for improvement or if there is a vehicle you would like to see recreated. Thank you so much for stopping by to look, and enjoy your flight!!
