Up until the Catastrophe, the Red Army sought to up-armor and mechanize ground forces to be able to combat the quickly advancing foreigners. The Veiians developed a hull labeled "Heavy 1" for testing in the
140s. It used an ustrium-electric engine, which gave it decent range and output. With ustrium in its early phases of application, the engine was complex
and tedious.

As the flames of the Horoko Incident reached their apex, Hasedia consolidated power in the Northeast, acquiring the hull and adequate heavy industry in the process. With the help of outside forces, Hasedia managed to mount a powerful 100mm howitzer, licensed produced from Chtengia. Even with only 50 of them, the Heavy 1 wrecked havoc on the smaller warlords with their surplus armor. The Heavy 1 Earned the nickname "Cougar" for its use to ambush the lighter vehicles of Hasedia's enemies, picking them off one-by-one. Any more than one at a time proved a great challenge for the increasingly inexperienced crews.

The giant started to teeter in the late 160s with the development of faster vehicles such as the T4 and the Galaxy. After the surrender of Hasedia and
the end of the civil war, the Cougar was refitted with modern gun handling and an improved engine. It finally earned its retirement in SC 174.
