Blohm & Voss P.204

The Blohm & Voss P 204 was one of several design studies by Blohm & Voss for asymmetric planes during World War II. It was also unusual in having hybrid propulsion comprising both piston and jet engines. With the principle of asymmetric aircraft design proved in the BV 141, Chief Designer Richard Vogt sought to apply the principle to a replacement for the ageing Junkers Ju 87 Stuka or dive bomber and ground attack aircraft, producing a series of design proposals. The new jet engines had ground-breaking performance at high speeds, but performed worse than the long-established piston engines at low speeds and altitudes. The P204 was an attempt to gain the best of both worlds, by fitting both types of engine.

Since the plane was never built, it invites a bit of "spielerei". I turned it into a naval version with floats (why not?) and equipped it with another Blohm & Voss product; the "friedensengel" glide torpedo. In addition, it also carries a standard F5b aerial torpedo and is equipped with a Bk 37 autocannon.

The BV950-L10 "Friedensengel" was a torpedo that could be released at a decent distance and would glide toward its target. To keep it simple, I used a time delay; the torpedo will glide for 20 seconds before it is automatically disconnected from its glider part. You just need to practice a few times to get a feel for the glide path and the best distance/altitude for release.

Controls are few;

AG1 : activate rudders on the floats (for taxi)
AG2 : lights
AG3 : release standard torpedo
AG4 : release right glide torpedo
AG5 : release left glide torpedo

VTOL down for flaps, Trim slider for elevator trim.
