F-14 S/MTD
What if we put thrust-vectoring engines and canards on the famous F-14 like we did with the legendary F-15?
Glossary:
KIAS: knots indicated airspeed
MPH: miles per hour
KM/H: kilometers per hour
TVC: thrust vector control
AGx: activation group (number)
Pilot's Operating Handbook:
Rotation speed: 90 KIAS (104mph, 167km/h) with TVC on, 170 KIAS (196mph/315km/h) with TVC off
Stall speed: 80 KIAS (92mph, 148km/h)
Maximum speed: 580 KIAS (668mph, 1,074km/h) with weapons
Armament (as delivered): 1× M-61A1 Vulcan 20mm rotary cannon (minigun), 2× AIM-9C Sidewinder semiactive radar homing air to air missiles (Guardian) and 4× AIM-54C Phoenix active radar homing air to air missiles (Cleaver) on wing stations, 4× AIM-120B AMRAAM active radar homing missiles (Interceptor) on fuselage stations
Controls:
Trim: wing sweep
VTOL: airbrakes
AG1: tailhook
AG8: TVC
Notices to Airmen:
- For takeoff, do not pull up suddenly. Apply gradual back pressure until nosewheel lifts off the ground.
- AIM-54s (Cleavers) are best suited against slow, unmaneuverable targets
- Post-stall maneuver-capable: see below.
- AG8 (on by default) activates TVC
Post-stall maneuvering:
Executable at any airspeed above 200 KIAS (230mph, 370km/h). For cobra maneuver, pitch back in level flight until reaching 45 degrees of pitch, and then pitch forward to cancel out momentum. Physics states that aircraft should reach 90 degrees automatically with 45-degree pitch.
For kulbit maneuver, pitch back in level flight until reaching 60 degrees of pitch. Do not pitch forward; allow aircraft to carry on with maneuver.
Author's notes:
- This will flip out if you let the airplane fly you. Always stay one step ahead of the aircraft.
- Just like the earliest models of the F-14, it loves to enter spins when having performance issues.
- This baby comes with modded weapons. The Guardians and Interceptors have a larger targeting cone and a faster targeting time; the Cleavers will lock onto any aircraft you want killed with a much bigger and much faster targeting system.
- For performance reasons, the BFE150 engines now produce 30 percent less thrust.
