Throttle up to turn on the engine, it is a little sluggish so you might want to tap pitch up to give yourself some accelleration.
There are warning lights that activate when you hold pitch too long. Pitch up engine is very very strong, so use accordingly.
Pitch down is Reverse and is very powerful and is the only thing that can save you if you dump the Flibbertigibbet into the ocean.
