In the wake of the Sep 11th terrorist attacks, the aviation industry suffered great financial losses and greater restrictions. In an effort to rekindle some of the old passion for flight that so many people once had, Smith Flight Works offered a full scholarship to any flight design student who could come up with an aircraft capable of navigating any canyon run. The winning design was called the Trenchtown. One was built and successfully ran through a local canyon.
