This is an incredibly bizarre-looking flying machine, inspired by the just as bizarre aircraft in the 1986 adventure film 'Gunbus', which is one of my most favourite aviation films. As its name suggests, this aircraft has a cockpit, which has been lifted from a truck, I tried to create this machine as bizarrely as i possibly could and I think that it has payed off. It also flies surprisingly well, who would've thought ?

@Mustang51 I've released another aircraft related to this movie, i recommend that you go check it out.
@123Acepilot I had no idea that it was that part! Thanks for sharing that information. I’ll check out that other build of yours now :)
@Mustang51 By the way, about two months ago, i've released an exact replica of one aircraft that appears in the film (Gunbus), the Salmson 2. The link to it is: https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/88x4JD/Salmson-2-Version-2-0
In the movie, the Salmsons play a major role when the two main heroes (Luke and Barney) attack the hangar of the giant experimental airship with two Salmsons that they have "borrowed" from another squadron. One of them (Barney) flies into the hangar and gets trapped inside as the doors are closed. However, he manages to escape the hangar by flying through a large ventilation shaft above the doors.
This scene features some of the best miniature work i have ever seen, the amount of detail is simply astounding. Really makes you think how a movie (which cost 17 million dollars to make) can be so easily forgotten.
Here's a link to the hangar scene from the movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUuSQlevJuY
@Mustang51 You are right, there was a fatal crash during the filming of Hells Angels 1930 and it made it into the finished product !
When the allied bomber (which is actually a Sikorsky S-29A) is shot down by Von Richthofen near the end of the film, the crash that you are seeing is also the death of a mechanic, who didn't abandon the aircraft in time, while the pilot did.
@123Acepilot it is a real shame that critics are so harsh on these films. I really enjoy them. Also in hells angels, I think there were fatal crashes during the filming. I could be thinking of another film from the era but I think it was that one
@Mustang51 I've recently watched Flyboys and it is still one of my favorite WW1 aviation films , despite being torn apart by critics (Gunbus is also despised by critics despite me liking the movie). I know that it is an inaccurate depiction of the Lafayette Escadrille and that the germans didn't fly red Fokker Dr1s in 1916 but i still enjoyed it.
I did watch the dogfight scene in Hells Angels (it also has an airship scene) and i can confirm, that they used real planes in the film as well as several miniatures for the mid-air collision scenes.
I really can't see the hate that Flyboys and Gunbus have received.
Gunbus is obviously meant to be a ridiculous and over-the-top comedy movie and Flyboys is hated by WW1 Aviation enthusiasts for its over-reliance on CGI. But what these people don't know is that they've actually used many practical effects in the movie (The airship, some mid-air-collisions as well as the ammunition depot bombing scene were all done using miniature effects). Here's a video showing the Flyboys miniatures: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZq6M8hI_WA
@123Acepilot it’s bloody massive! That battle somewhat reminded me of the airship battle in flyboys. If you want to watch an awesome WWI film you should watch Hell’s Angels made in 1930. It was filmed with real planes I believe
@Mustang51 What are your thoughts on the massive airship in the movie ?
@123Acepilot I did watch the main battle scene though. Quite a funny bunch of aircraft
@123Acepilot I completely forgot! I was trying to think of a film to watch today but couldn’t find anything on Netflix. Thanks for reminding me! I will check it out now
@Mustang51 @Mustang51
Did you have any chance to watch the movie ? Especially now during the coronavirus pandemic ?
@123Acepilot and it's a reference about maro
@123Acepilot someone dead something in the comments so I decided to make a joke out of it
@xXMrCoolDudeXx
Is this a reference that i'm not getting ?
MOMAMEA I LOST A LITTLE BIT OF LASAGNA
@123Acepilot sadly I haven’t found time to yet. The holidays are supposed to be a time to relax but I always feel like I have less time to do things like watch movies hahaha. It’s still on my watch soon list
@Mustang51 Have you watched the movie yet and if you did, did you enjoy it ?
Just wondering.
I just watched some clips of the film and those planes look whacky! I might watch the whole thing now
@Mustang51 I know that World War 1 aircraft didn't have modern weaponry, but this aircraft is fictional, the design is based on the very strange flying-machines from the 1986 movie 'Gunbus' (aka Sky Bandits), which quickly became one of my most favourite aviation-themed films i've ever seen (despite the very poor critical reception).
@Mesi1010 Thank you, that was my first attempt at making a detailed aircraft, the last update has made making detailed vehicles much more simple.
The amount of detail in this is incredible. Well done!
Absolutely beautiful aircraft. It’s really fantastic in almost every way (those gatling guns are very out of place). One of the best aircraft in this style I’ve seen on SP
