This edition of the Little Red STOL features light-weight floats, allowing it to deploy from both land and water. The tail section houses a small float as well, effectively making it a "tail-dragger" on land or water. This feature allows the small aircraft's wing to maintain a positive angle of attack throughout it's take-off run-up, whether from land or water. The added hydrofoil/aerofoil between the two floats assists the plane in rising from the water's surface, breaking that ever-present water tension and allowing the plane to take off smoothly, at a low speed of 70mph.
There is a downside to the added freedom of landing anywhere. The Amphibious edition is very sensitive when applying forward stick. Never apply more than half forward stick, or you will risk going into a nose-down stall, and potentially a flat spin. If you are at a reasonable altitude (Above 2000ft), recovering from this stall is fairly easy, but close to the ground could mean a crash, or splash-down.
