The BMP-3M Dragun (Dragoon) differs from the above vehicles, despite the fact that it even shares the name with the latter. It is a largely modified BMP-3M, produced by the original manufacturer of the BMP-3, Kurganmashzavod (which is now part of the Traktornye Zavod concern). It was first presented to the public in 2015 at the Russian Arms Expo. The vehicle is intended primarily for the export market.

The crew consists of three men (commander, gunner and driver), and the Dragun can carry 8 additional soldiers. The crew sits in the middle of the vehicle between the turret and the engine. Compared to the older BMP-3, the crew compartment has been completely redesigned and is now able to withstand explosions from mines and improvised explosive devices. Specially sealed fuel tanks have been installed on the rear sides of the vehicle, not far from the crew compartment.
