The Soviet union was in need of a new aircraft as there original planes were simply not up to par with the new aircraft of the Aero-Age. To fill this gap, the Soviets looked up to a young scientist, named Dr. Aron Zorzov, to design aircraft for the soviet union. Zorzov had already gotten famouse thanks to his high-speed interceptor "Gorsky". so designing a fighter would not be hard. after months of design and trial and error, Zorzov had presented his newest creation: The Lavatchkin fighter.
