Introduction
The SkyCorps Hawk, initially named the SkyCorps Scythe is a Veridisian twin engine, single seat, all-weather, and stealth fighter aircraft. Designed and developed by SkyCorps Aviation for the New Millennium Fighter Program, it is the first fifth-generation fighter aircraft procured by both the Veridisian Air Force and Navy.
Conceptualized designs for a stealthy fighter aircraft to be used by both the Air Force and Navy were first realized in 1975, and by 1982, the Veridisian government began investing for such a fighter to be conceived. The following year, in January 1983, the New Millennium Fighter Program was initiated by the Veridisian Armed Forces, aimed to develop and introduce a technologically advanced and superior fighter aircraft by the year 2000, which incorporates stealth technology. Proposals were conceived by VerdAir Corporation (who had previously designed fighters for the Optimal Fighter Jet Program), SkyCorps Aviation, Kornath, Alfred Corporation, Valhallan Angel, and Aerodynamica. In the end, SkyCorps's five proposals were selected for the NMFP in 1986, but two were validated only and were approved for development after flight testing (the second proposal would later be the SkyCorps Raven). Development for a prototype aircraft began in May 1988. It made a successful first flight on May 30, 1993, and the SkyCorps Hawk was introduced into military service on June 15, 2004 after eleven years of development, also making it the first fifth-generation fighter aircraft to ever enter service (the F-22 was introduced in late 2005).
The SkyCorps Hawk is primarily designed as an air superiority fighter and interceptor, but it incorporates ground attack, electronic warfare, and reconnaissance capabilities. Most of the aircraft's airframe is built by SkyCorps, with some of the wing components provided by VerdAir Corporation after the company was purchased in 1994 by the former. The Hawk's flight systems and avionics were developed by Millennium Science School. The Hawk is powered by two powerful VE-950-JE turbofan jet engines, and uses a nacelle consisting of pressurized superheated pyroxene to endure the extremely scorching temperatures of the afterburners. It has five internal weapons bay to internally store its weapons, including air-to-ground munitions. For stealth missions, it is limited to being armed with eight missiles. It is equipped with a powerful internal rotary cannon.
It was originally meant to replace older Veridisian fighters including the VerdAir Griffin, but due to its slow and expensive production, the Hawk is only limited to more than 2,100 fighters. Despite this, it is a key component for the overall airpower of the Veridisian Armed Forces.
It first sought combat action in July 2004 during Operation Crystal Angel, when Hawks were used to hamper Kaiser PMC's ability to scramble its fighter fleet into the air. In October 2006, a Hawk successfully shot down a Pegasus operated by Kaiser PMC after it made unauthorized flights over Almacour Air Force Base, claiming its first air-to-air kill. Hawks were deployed in the Middle East, Libya, Afghanistan, the Levant, South Asia, and Africa, with some stationed in air force bases in North America, Europe, the Gulf States and the Indo-Pacific.
