My Submission for the Future Jet Challenge.
Sometime around 2020 both the USCG and US Navy realized that many lives were being lost in Search and Rescue operations due to delays in pulling people from the water. Survivors were being located quickly by fixed wing aircraft, however a helicopter or ship had to be deployed to actually perform the rescue and that could take hours depending on weather.
A proposal was requested for a high speed flying boat and Northrop-Grumman's entry was selected as the winner due to superior rough weather performance and low overall operating costs. It was christened the Albatross II due to Grumman's heritage building military flying boats.
Shown here in USCG configuration.
