The F-20A Dilo marked a new generation of stealth tactical fighter aircraft. Developed through numerous tests with its predecessor, the F-19 Thundercrash, the new aircraft was much more powerful, highly maneuverable (also capable of marg ginal supermaneuverability), incredibly fuel efficient and even capable of taking off from aircraft carriers. Part of the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program, the F-20A was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but includes ground attack, electronic warfare and signal intelligence capabilities. Due to the sensitive technology included in the Dilo, the aircraft was banned from being exported. The Dilo featured a large V-tail, usage of elevons, stabilators and movable foreplanes making the aircraft highly maneuverable even at low speeds. It also used a clipped avro-delta wing with a reverse sweep and the control surfaces also functioned as speed brakes during landing. Capable of low-power supercruise and able to achieve a top speed of Mach 2.7, the theoretical ceiling of the F-20A could reach as high as 80,000+ft though practicality limited the ceiling to about 55,000. Future updates to the Dilo may even include 2-Dimensional thrust vectoring along the longitudinal axis of the aircraft.
