Gloster archer mk.II
The archer
Get it… gladiator, arche- yeah anyway
The archer is the (fictional) proposition to the RAF that gloster can reuse their gladiator fuselage for a low cost, scout monoplane.
This, is mk.II
The mk.II was the collaboration of Brewster and gloster, the idea was still the same, a low-cost monoplane, except it was now a mid-wing. The many internal mechanisms were taken off of the Brewster F2A Buffalo, hence the “collaboration”. This version was taken into real military use as WWII arose. It was used in the African theater for low-down operations as the engine was “silent as a mouse” to quote an archer pilot. Its biggest operational use was on the Russo-German front, thanks to the slow nature of the German advance during the winter.
The model was retired mid 1943.
