M48 Universal Grenade Body
The M48 is a Paternian series of hand grenades. Known as the "Soda Can" or "Beer Can" due to its size and shape, the M48 was developed by the Paternian Army to have a single grenade body for all types. Standardizing on a smooth-sided cylindrical shape for its suitability in most roles, the filler is what defined the role. To this end, fragmentation, concussion, incendiary, smoke (of all colors), and practice were manufactured. The M48 was designed with the ability to be employed as a rifle grenade; the cylindrical grenade aids use with a cup-type grenade launcher. The base features an internal screw thread to accept an adapter for use with spigot-style 22mm rifle grenades. Alternatively, it can be fitted with a screw-on impact fuse, replacing the standard time fuse. Both adapters can be employed with both blanks and live cartridges. When using the base adapter, the use of the safety clip is recommended. From left to right: concussion (HE) w/ safety clip, fragmentation (APERS), Incendiary (THRM), smoke (SMOK), colored smoke (SMOK-Y)(yellow depicted but blue (B), red (R), violet/purple(V), and green (G) available), and practice (INERT).
