A sleek tandem-engined monoplane with contra-rotating propellers. Use a little bit of yaw on takeoff to ensure stability.

History:
The Bolkhovitinov I was conceived as a high-speed fighter designed to use two Klimov M-105 engines in tandem. The first prototype I-1 was included in the experimental aeronautical construction plan for 1941. It was expected that, due to the large number of common features with the Bolkhovitinov S bomber, the development could be shortened. In general, the I-1 fighter repeated the same scheme of the S bomber, but it was equipped with more powerful engines from the same family, which had to guarantee a significant increase in performance. Among the most notable differences are the mono-tail and the fully-retractable tail wheel. The cooling system, both of the engine and the oil, was made similar to the one used in the S, but with a larger section due to the increase in heat generated by the difference in the power plant. The armament, located all in the wing, consisted of two 23mm VYa cannon and four .50 cal BS machine guns.

Even though this plane was a varient, four variants of the I-1 were proposed: the R-1 reconnaissance aircraft, the BBS-1 light bomber, the I-1Sh attack aircraft, and the I-1T heavy fighter/bomber destroyer (these will all be posted in the future).

The I-1 and its variants were cancelled in early 1942 due to the many problems the S bomber showed during tests.
