Despite being over 40 years old by the founding of the gang, the Elson Flyer found use by the notorious illegal trade gang, the House of Cards. Using its slow speed as an advantage, the gang put the plane alongside its airships to escort them, as the airships are not armed-hold for some crewmen armed with rifles. Because the planes are severely out-of-date, the gang heavily modified them. The first modification they made was the reinforcement of the outer frame, doubling each rod’s durability whilst doubling its weight by adding more internal frames. Along with this was making the frames look nicer. The second modification they made was replacing the canvas wings with actual aluminum ones, increasing their weight fivefold but making them more rigid and now with small fuel tanks. The third modification was an upgraded engine of the same size and weight, having 600hp. The fourth modification was the change of armament from an M1896A Machine Gun Conversion to two M1919 machine guns. The fifth modification was the addition of radios and basic navigation equipment, along with a nicer looking and less cramped cockpit. The sixth modification was a small pipe slot that would allow the planes to refuel by pulling up close to the airships they’re escorting and having airship crews connect a fuel hose to the planes. All of these increased the plane’s general performance in every way except maneuverability, which was slightly decreased. A low price to pay for everything good that came with the modifications. Because of the rarity of the original Elson Flyers due to most of them being scrapped or destroyed as they had high casualty rates during the Great War, these new designs were produced by private manufacturers hired by the gang. In practice, they worked more well than anticipated, pilots being able to fend off enemy planes easily, often having the enemy planes flee without pursuit.
