The Macchi M.5 was a flying boat fighter used by Italy and (Briefly) the Untied States during the First World War. Based loosely on captured Lohner flying boats, the M.5 was a vast improvement, capable of holding its own against land based Austro-Hungarian fighters. Just over 200 were built, and a number remained in service up to 1923.
