Es startete vertikal und flog immer in kleine Gruppen von 3-4 Flugzeugen, für den Fall, dass gegnerische Abfangjäger sie trotz Tiefflug entdeckten, hatten die Flugzeuge jeweils 24 Raketen an Bord. Beim Start rotierte das Flugzeug um es zu stabilisieren. Wenn es bei einer Geschwindigkeit von 350mph stabil flog, wurde der schräg angebrachte Booster abgeworfen.
