RJ P.1214-4 Kestrel 7.6

237k RamboJutter  4.2 years ago

Introduction

In the late 1990s a decision was made by the UK government to design and build a "stealth" style combat aircraft. RJ was appointed to work alongside BAE to develop this concept. Using some old research from prior to BAE's formation when Hawker Siddeley created the P1214 concept, this was adapted to remove the vertical takeoff capability but to incorporate modern avionics, controls, weapons, engines etc. This allowed for a base design in which to work and which was then adapted and altered to encorporate what are now common stealth characteristics

Controls

AG1 = Reheat
1

AG2 = Weapons bay doors and activate AIM missiles
2

AG3 = Opens gun door and enables the gun
3

AG4 = opens and extends refueling probe
4

AG7 = Nav lights

AG8 = Airbrakes
5

VTOL dn = Flaps
4

Other Features

Vertical thrust vectoring for increased manoeverability
7

Sequenced undercarriage doors
8

Sharp edges
9

Inspiration

Firstly the basic shape leans heavily on the P1214 but then engines, nav lights etc are inspired by the F22, the jagged edges for opening segments is common on most "stealthy" builds like the B2 and F35. Basiccally I just combined numerous different aircraft styles into one.

Notes

This is the "A" variant of the design without external ordinance mounts which can be fitted as per the F22 / F35 / B1. Further variants including 2 seat and swing wing versions may be developed at a later date.

    @Blue0Bull thanks for the detailed review, I'd forgotten all about this, glad you liked it.

    @RamboJutter Yeah, it's a can of worms which I think no one can answer to (coz they are not allowed to). The build looks cool anyway so who cares :D

    @MethaManAerospace fair enough but then when you angle everything you reflect the radar signals away from the plane not back to the receiver thus reducing the aircrafts radar cross section hence the design used here. In addition the forward swept wing can't have any more detrimental impact on radar Cross section than any other wing as it has the same dimensions just it goes forwards. In essence if the shape was an issue the f117 wouldn't work as the radar rrceivers are looking for both approaching (wing swept back) and receding (looking at the trailing edge, which is the same as a forward swept wing).

    Oh and I have not seen or played ace combat so no idea what the aircraft on there look like :)

    @RamboJutter well according to some people, forward swept wings, aren't stealth coz they sorta focus the energy back...
    Also, the original design has a fuselage and twin booms which really stuck out, again, supposedly not very stealth.

    The thing with stealth planes is to be as smooth as possible with the shape. The angles help to reflect the energy from one specific direction to another.
    For example the F117 had a flat lower surface and the angles on top reflected the waves towards the sky.
    One trick for the SR 71 was to blend the fuselage and nacelles with the wings to have a smooth flat bottom with no features that would reflect the energy back to the radar.
    This is partly why I'm not a fan of all the ace combat style stealth planes.

    So, going by the reasoning above, the p1214 having the fuselage stick out (top+bottom) and tail booms on the bottom is probably a bad stealth design choice.

    @RomanTorchwick I don't know, I realise that some of my followers/upvoters left after that but I don't really agree with the whole sp is dying theories

    @MethaManAerospace care to elaborate? How's it the worst stealth config?

    @RamboJutter yeah but I'm just wondering that this is not happened in 3 month ago
    But then the German Corsair come
    And everything went down hill
    Do you think is had connection?

    @RomanTorchwick don't worry about it, it happens all the time. I've given up being bothered by it, I just build what I want and if I finish it and post it then thats a bonus now.

    Hey ever wonder why both of our build have only 25 Upvotes
    Even though both of our build are quite high quality??

    the p1214 has probably the worst "stealth configuration possible", so lets make stealth no?
    Looks really cool though, good job!

    Man you are so good at making fictional builds. I tried to make a stealth mq9 thingy and it didn't turn out at all like what I wanted. I'm just better with replicas I guess.@RamboJutter
