Project 949A Antey

24 Cleaver Armed Version

Users:
Soviet Navy
Russian Navy

Built: 1975-Present
In commission: 1980-Present

With the United States Navy developing formidible nuclear powered aircraft Carriers and the Soviet Union Lagging behind, Russia's military developments put a lot of focus into counteracting these great ships. One such measure was the development of a massive Nuclear Cruise Missile submarine known as Project 949 Granit, with project 949A Antey soon following as its successor. Until some Ohio Class submarines were modified to carry cruise missiles, they were the largest cruise missile submarines in the world. Armed with 24 Supersonic P-700 Anti Ship missiles, their armament is nearly as heavy as that of the Typhoon Class.

naval-technology

Features:

  • Fully Working Hydroplanes and Rudder for pitch and yaw
  • Neutral Buoyancy enabling unlimited dive and simulated ballast function
  • Near 1:1 Scale
  • 6 P-700 Granit Supersonic Cruise missiles
  • Escape Capsule

Instructions:

Submarine Operation
1)Pitch for Pitch Control
2)Roll for steering (Yaw)
3)VTOL for ballast control
4)LandingGear to deploy bowplanes
5)AG7 To deploy Escape Capsule.

Note: Staying at a slow speed and using ballast is recommended for diving from the surface, the wings of the cruise missiles try to direct the sub upward in motion, so use some slight downward ballast to counteract.

Cruise Missile Operation
1)Reduce Depth to above 40 Feet (12 meters)
2)Switch to Air to Ground mode
3)Fireweapon to launch missiles
4)Pitch and Yaw to control
Note: Slow motion is recommended for ease of targeting at terminal phase, you should also have the bowplanes retracted.

Here it is Russia's Beefcake of a cruise missile submarine. Not my most refined work but it functions, if only having my submarines weigh a ton didn't disable manual steering for steerable rockets I could have the benefit of the weight and its ballast rendering changes due to added weapons small.
Oh well, hope you all enjoy! It's not my most detailed submarine since the body alone took a lotta parts. I'm gonna use this as a basis for the Belgorod, got a Losharik ready for installation and have plans to use a magnet to allow recovery.

@TheMitsuboshiBoi Belgorod's out now, and I've already gotten started on the Halibut, so I might get started on the Typhoon soon enough.

Another beautiful boat. I mean the Russian designs are mostly butt ugly - the beauty is in the detail and accuracy you deliver. You must have an addition of ‘janes fighting ships’ from the Cold War? I grew up (not in the Cold War mostly) reading Clancy novels. TC. Gone before his time.

I measured it with the side picture against the model of the Oscar 2 I got in the mail literally a couple hours ago, and the only thing that needs to be lengthened is the bow by a tiny bit, the flat area behind the tower by about 1/4, and the area just behind that by about the rudder’s length (rudder, not whole fin)

@MintLynx I had a similar problem with my airships, where I’d get the right height-length ratio and then look at it and it’s like super short even though it’s technically perfect. I actually flipped it upwards and got a different measurement for height (was length) then what it’s supposed to be. I think it’s caused by scaling up parts.

Now I just use fuselage blocks as a rough measure and eyeball it

@BurkeEnterprise Really? The measurement shown on Wikipedia must have been for the Oscar 1 then.

Awesome! One thing though, it’s a bit... stubby? The Oscar ii had a hull height and length about the same as the delta 4, but a bit wider, this is more like the typhoon class.

    Still fun as hell though
