THA-X5 Sparrow Mk.II
In 2036 the THI needed a new aircraft capable of aiding the ground troops in combat. It needed to be capable of holding a large payload as well as having subsonic speeds at sea level. This was the result of that project.
It has one 3250 HP turboprop and 2 turbojet engines. It is capable of 500 mph (0.7 mach) at sea level and 1,015 mph (1.3 mach) at 40,000 feet.
This design was heavily based on the Fairchild Republic A-10 Lightning II. The only real difference is the main weapons and the engines. The prop adds stability to the craft, and the jets add the power.
Weapons:
- 1 15mm autocannon-minigun (for air-air combat or taking out non to lightly armored ground forces)
- 2 30mm autocannons (explosive shell, ground; 120 rounds each. Meant for anti-armor attacks)
- 4 hardpoints with 3 attachment areas each (this one has this loadout:)
- 2 1,000 pound bombs
- 4 7-rocket pods
- 4 interceptors
- 2 infernos
Controls:
AG1= Drop all hardpoint weapons (for emergency landing, lighter weight, et cetera)
AG2= Drop external tanks
AG3= Drogue chutes
AG4= Arresting hook and light
I hope you enjoy!
Side Notes:
The landing gear stay out so that if the servos get damaged, you can at least try to land
Huge thanks to @Cyan for making the insignias for me (I used the THI's "offensive" insignia on the sides)
This is the first time I made actual wings! The sides that are visible are circular and the ones that are not are hard. This looks so much better than other ones I've made... now on to learning custom control surfaces...

@mikoyanster this is my official upload for the challenge. In case it becomes an annoyance, I have already made the other one an old post. But this one is the official one. Thanks!
Thanks! @Astro12
@PapaKernels I will in the future! Also, I messed around with the weight and stuff and it ended up making the plane more unstable. It took off fine, but it dips worse, and then I dropped the payload and it spun out... so I think that it's good with how it is XD. I also still need to design this aircraft on paper. I've done all of the ones on my list except for this and a newer version of the Expeller
Also you have alot of just 1 long fuselage blocks with a width and height of 2. I say focus on more complex body shapes. Dissect some of mine ( but I recommend someone better than me) and see how they make their fuselages. The default 2wide 2 high fuselage is plain and alot of new users use it. I know your new but Its something that you should start getting away from.
@PapaKernels okay! Thank you for feedback! Not many people actually give me feedback. I will try and fix the weight issue (removing dead weight from the front and some fuel, or by adding weight to the back)
Ok so after flying it, I can see it's quite nose heavy, I need full trim and with hard maneuvers it needs more than full trim making it a handful to fly. I tried it put against the convoy and it does very well ( tho I am very bad at destroying the convoy I tried 6 times and crashed into a mountain each time) it's a full little plane but the nose heaviness kinda ruins the fun. I'll do more testing but its probably that way because when you release all the payload it probably will make it easier to fly and not need as much trim. Just a guess.
@PapaKernels thanks! And interesting... I need to start making better cockpits XD. Custom control surfaces and better cockpits are next on my "list of improvement." In my opinion, I think I made the jet engines very small compared to the plane
Nice. I like the look of it alot! The only thing I would critique would be the cockpit, again it looks a bit small for such a large creation. Other than that it's a good plane
Aww, thanks! @PapaKernels
@PapaKernels Sorry! I just remembered to tag you. I hope you like it! (side note: pull up before landing if the hardpoints are still attached and try not to land top-side. Otherwise the bombs will go off. Using the chutes whilst turning will destroy the propeller)
@PapaKernels
also, mikoyanster, is it okay that I have 3 guns on it? I just want to make sure I'm not breaking the rules
This plane is very big... not what I intended on... but oh, well
