Instruction

The Qiang-5 (Q-5 or A-5, NATO codenname: Fantan) is A single-seat, twin-engine supersonic strike aircraft developed by China in the late 1950s based on the J-6 (Soviet MiG-19) fighter.

The Qiang-5, initially named the "Xiongying 302", was developed by China based on the J-6 / MiG-19 fighter and based on the design of Western attack aircraft. This aircraft has changed the Soviet jet nose intake to the two sides of the fuselage structure of the fusion design, adding bulletproof armor and bulletproof glass and bombing gunnery sight, while using the J-6 engine and tail design. In terms of appearance, Qiang-5 is similar to the combination of the newly designed front fuselage and the engine and rear fuselage of J-6. After the preliminary determination of the overall layout of the strike aircraft, the wooden prototype of the aircraft was completed in Shenyang in November 1958. The drawings and related calculations were completed in 1960, as well as most of the process equipment and 80 per cent of the spare parts for the three aircraft. Subsequently, the trial production of Qiang-5 was transferred to Nanchang Aircraft Factory to continue. Development of the aircraft resumed in late 1962, and the first aircraft was completed in July 1963. The first successful test flight of the Qiang-5 took place on June 5, 1965.
