STS 606

Overview

The STS 606 was the first aircraft produced by the Samilan Transport Sector, or STS. With a capacity of 225 passengers in a one-class system, it has a range of 6,500 nautical miles. Another spec is that it travels at approximately 500 km/h.

History

In 1965, Arbus and the SSA merged into the STS, with Aviato's remnants following soon after. The new organisation decided to create a new aircraft to solidify their hold over the industry.

Talks began with an aircraft similar to the original Arbus 156 plan, with 6 propellers, but it was eventually decided that a new jet plane needed to be introduced for long-haul flights.

The design included A-125 jets from Aviato, and flight instruments and fuselage input from Arbus, as the SSA section oversaw the operation, and in 1972, approved the STS 606 for production.

Reception

The 606 was a massive hit amongst airlines, but was expensive to run. However, they could charge prices similar to those of the innovative 156, as the fad of the new jet engine was in full swing.

By the time this hype died down, the 606 had settled itself in the market, and continues production and use in small quantities to this day.
