This type of agricultural engine was invented in the 1840s, Notable manufacturers of portable steam engines were; Clayton & Shuttleworth, Marshall, Alexander Dean, Ransomes,Tuxford&Sons And Howden.
The portable engine was used to power a number of farm machines, most notably the threashing machine, It was towed by horses from farm to farm along with a threasher in the harvest season, Much like today's cmbine harvester.
The idea first appeared in 1839, and after the 1842 Royal Agricultural Society Show in Bristol, where several early Tuxford models were shown, the design spread very quickly and many new manufacturers popped up. Clayton And Shuttleworth porduced some 26,000 Portable Engines and a great deal were exported globally. In the 1850s A man called John Fowler Modified a Clayton & Shuttleworth Engine So it could power itself, and so the Traction Engine was born!
This particular one is a mix of different designs, but using the unconventional but effective XVI pressure steam valve that lets this engine have the layout it does.

@SpiritusRaptor Thanks man!
Why? It isn't meant to move. The real things didn't move, so my half fictional replica does not move, therefore making it realistic. It is what they were, The principle of the portable engine was a boiler with an engine on top saving space, it could be pulled by horses from farm to farm to power machines, in the 1850s the technology was limited, it was very hard to create drive mechanisms but eventually they were invented using engines like this, to create an entirely different machine, the TRACTION engine and the traction engine then evolved into the modern tractor and actually the tank.@GermanWarMachine
You don't. @GermanWarMachine
