Pummeler Trainer Mk 2
"It may look like a flying rust bucket, but remember this; every fighter ace in the Pilotmario Air Force flew them when they were you. So show it some respect."
-Drill Sergeant Julie Cochran in the movie "Ace"
When the Pilotmario Air Force decided to retire its old biplanes, it sought a design study for a basic trainer. Pilotmario Defense Incorporated decided to revise the Pummeler Mk 2 airframe to accomodate it, since it was readily available and noted for its pleasant flight characteristics. A few modifications were made in order to optimize the aircraft. Performance was reduced, as novice pilots were not ready for higher-speed aircraft. The powerful 2,000HP radial with a 4-bladed propeller was replaced by a 1,000HP radial with a three-bladed propeller. The rear fuel tanks were removed as well. In additon, only one centerline rack and the inner four wing racks were retained, as large ordnance loads were not carried on training flights. Instead of eight guns, it was given two, in order to conserve ammunition for target training and to encourage accuracy. Most noticeably, the cockpit was lengthened in order to accomodate an instructor behind the pilot. Over 1,500 conversions were made, and were considered successful and exported widely. Sometimes, these export variants were refitted with standard Pummeler engines and used as ground attack aircraft or even a proper fighter. This aircraft is in the markings of the 121st Training Wing, stationed in Paternia.
