SPOILER ALERT:Everything is fictional (except the Mig-21)
The SA-77 was a Soviet experimental jet powdered aircraft during the cold war.Derived from the Mig-17 it features a traditional wing design , fuselage design of big to small, a T-tail at the back, and a engine located in the rear of the fuselage end capable of pushing the aircraft to speeds of 480-550mph now thats already impressive.
Its armaments are rather basic with 1 50mm cannons in each wing for ground attacks while also having machine guns that are located at the front of the aircraft at each sides for dogfights. Also featuring tripod landing gears and 4 air brakes in each wing allowed the aircraft to land in pretty much short runways. Its flight performance are rather decent, with good turn rates and climb rates though its handling is basic its pilots still struggle to get the aircraft straight during turns.
HISTORY:Its first prototype was made in 1957 and will later on increase to 5.first flew in 1959 along the Mig-21 first introduction. While Mig-21 was successful aircraft the SA-77 did not, following its first somewhat successful test flight the second test ended in a crash with the pilot not making it. A lot of people speculate that the cause of the crash was pilot error but a few days later engineers found out that there was a problem in the control system of the T-tail. That it would jam and break during sudden high pitch maneuvers, theres also a chance of it damaging the engine somehow.During this time a third test was ordered to be conducted. The engineers quickly rushed to the airfield to warm them, but it was too late by the time they arrived they can already see firetrucks entering the airfield and a black plume of smoke in the distance. The third crash made the SA-77 project to collapse mainly because of the public debate. So in 1960 the project was abandoned with 3 prototypes sitting in hangers in a unknown location.
