[CLOSED] Amphibian Challenge
CLOSED!
Make a plane that can land on land and water!
Credit to @Beggans for the Grumman Goose in the thumbnail and to @mikoyanster for the Aeroclub Map in the thumbnail.
Rules:
- No infinite fuel - To provide a strict definition for this, any empty weight that is less than -1 times the loaded weight is not allowed*. As an example, if the loaded weight is 100lb and the empty weight is -110lb, then the plane will be disqualified because -110<-100
- Must be a successor
- 3 entries per user
- Max 2000 parts
- The plane must be able to successfully take off from both land and water.
- The plane must NOT be a re-upload - it will count as long as you can prove there is a new feature to an existing build, or a brand-new one. A new livery does not count.
- The use of Fine Tuner, XML, and Funky Trees is encouraged, though all other mods are not allowed (I play mostly on iOS)
- No copying descriptions (or a template of one) from someone else; copying stuff you wrote is fine
- I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY AIRPLANE if it is copying another plane without credit or for any other reason pertaining to point farming or dishonesty.
- Rules are subject to change. Check back often!
- Have fun!
Violation of any rules will result in instant disqualification.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. People have already asked some questions, so be sure to read the comments.
*In planes with 400+ part count, the empty weight can be as low as -2 times the loaded weight to take into account the parts used for extra detail
Submission Categories:
Gold and Platinum - Submissions from those with 10k points or above as of 12 October will be compared with each other.
Gold and silver - Submissions from those with 1k or more points but less than 10k as of 12 October will be compared with each other.

Point guidelines:
Plane - 100pts
1. Performance - Does your airplane fly realistically? Does it just feel like a real plane?
X/40pts
2. Innovation - how creative and innovative is it? Does the plane have unique design solutions to common problems? What unexpected features are there (e.g. autopilot, doors, complex custom landing gear, the extensive use of Funky Trees, etc)?
X/30pts
3. Design - Is the design of the plane practical? Is it realistic? If your plane is a replica, how similar is it compared to the real plane? If it is fictional, how does it compare to its real-world competition?
X/25pts
4. Livery - how good does it look?
X/5pts
Description - 50pts
Are there detailed and accurate specs? Are limitations, V-speeds, and warnings given for the most enjoyable and realistic experience? Are short tutorials given for critical flight phases? Are controls given, if any, detailed and accurate?
TOTAL: 150pts
- Extra credit of 20 points will be given for the best first impression
- Extra credit of 0.01 points will be given for each part over
500 that does not constitute spamming parts, rounded up to the nearest point - Ten (10) points will be deducted if a gyro is required for normal operation - vertical take-off aircraft exempt if gyro is used for VTOL only
First place - 35 upvotes (if possible) and 2 spotlights if you have less than 3889 points

There is no need to download to make a successor if you have access to a desktop or laptop computer. In the xml file, near the top, there is the attribute
url=
Edit this and place the 6 character code found in the url (Ek0114
in this case) and put it inside the quotes. Save the file and you're all set.

Thank you so much! This is easily my most popular and hottest post!
@XAircraftManufacturer There is no need to download! You just open the xml file for ur build and change the
url=
so that the six digit code you see in the url is in the quotes. It will make it a successor.I have posted my challenge entry @FeiWu
ok thanks @FeiWu
@Thebite1234567 Sure. Just make sure that plane is a successor of this post, and that you two get the plane in by the due time. 12pm UTC is 8am eastern time and 5am pacific time if you live in the US. This is when I will start grading.
I made a plane for this challenge but I needed someone to fix it and someone said they would post the fixed one for me can I say that me and this person made the plane @feiwu
@Mandanbb8099 Mods are community-made alterations to the stock game. Don't confuse them with the moderators, who look after the website and are users with red badges that say
Mod
. Most players (including me) don't play with mods for the most part, and mobile users don't even have access to them. Therefore, to ensure fairness I am not allowing them with the exception of Fine Tuner and Overload, which have recently been added into the game for everyone.What do the mods do and why do we need them?
@ParziParziTheVal as long as it can land on both land and water. Also, for bonus points, get me a floating tow plane/winch lol
@FeiWu :D
@FireFast212 I just noticed I have more points than you now XD
@FireFast212 lol
oof i was going to make a seaplane challenge! noice tho
@FeiWu Noted. Thanks, finally got some motivation to give flying boats a try!
@Lixcuudis no. You just have to replicate all the cool features of the plane you replicate, and find new ways to build things. You will be docked if you build the same old way that already exists in many iterations, and have no custom and/or interactive features.
For the innovation category, will points be taken off if it's not an original design? (e.i. a replica of an already existing craft in the real world)
@Suubk27 Thank you for the upvote and spotlight!
Ah. Okay thanks! @FeiWu
@Ayvieyation As long as it is practical. By realistic I mean you can't have a plane as small as an ant.
You said a lot about the plane having to be “realistic.” I like to think outside of the box. Can I make a futuristic amphibious plane, or does it have to look like something that already exists?
I’m in
@masotan15 surely you would win
@FeiWu
I was just joking MaDude...

And Don't worry, I cannot join. I just returned from my Break from Simpleplanes. I have MANY pending Projects to deal with. No Need to Worry...
