For this evolution of the Explorer program, a modified McPherson strut design is used front and rear. Lower control arm movement is completely unrestricted by joint binding. The shocks mount to tubes that rotate with the arc of the lower control arm. It moves so smoothly that the vehicle squats under acceleration and dives under braking despite having 200% spring and damper rates. Rates can be raised or lowered depending on what terrain is being encountered. Rock crawling will be more effective with lower rates while rates should be increased for blasting through the desert.
