Development of the Boeing 737-300 began in March 1981, final assembly began in mid-1983, the first prototype left the factory in January 1984, the first test flight on February 24 of the same year, and the first delivery on November 28. The Boeing 737-400 and Boeing 737-500 are the second generation of the Boeing 737.
Production of the second-generation 737 was discontinued in 2000 as a result of production of the new Boeing 737NG. The last 737-300 was delivered in 2000.
