The year is 1967 and the Federal Navy is desperate for advanced jet fighters. Directed by the DoD to do some soulsearching, the Navy relents from her perceived need for new designs and settles for a couple of failed FAF hand-me-down projects, the YF-77 Stargazer beign one of them. After extensive redesigns, the resultant product, named StarFlyer, is presented for the Navy's Xperimental Advanced Fighter contest, competing* against the XAF Zephyr.
*Competition in wich excelled in many areas, including taking off from the USS Tiny with enough fuel to make a round trip and land. For real! I SAW IT!
