The Intimidators greatest ride

history of the 1980s cars

In the start of the 1980s NASCAR made a rule change that made the wheel base of all cars shorter, and the manufacturers built the body panels. Until this time the Stockcar versions of buicks, fords and chevys were quite different to the street car counterparts and big bill wanted the cars to look more like the cars they were ment to represent. Many drivers, particularly Darryl waltrip said that they "were evil to drive and would turn around on you in a second". The cars were much more boxy and they provided very little aerodynamical advantages. The buicks and pontiacs however brought models that were much better aerodynamically, with a slopped front end and smoother rear roofline to where they dominated the chevy, and ford counter parts. In the first showing in 1981, Richard petty would win the first race of the year in a buick regal. For the next 61 races buick would win 47 and the 1981-82 championships. After the butt kicking of the early 80s ford decide to revamp their thunderbird and made it much more streamlined, and thus the 2nd aero wars started. Soon every manufacturer started creating more streamlined cars to get their cars to the front. In 1986 the monte carlo would get the bubble window like here on this car, and would dominate. In 1987 ford would release a new version of the thunderbird and it completely went off the rules in the early 80s. With that then everyone moved to streamlined body's and we saw the evolution from that to the gen 4 car which ended in the mid 2000s.

in 1987 ford threw the rule book completely out the window and created this car which then set the fastest speed ever recorded in NASCAR history at 210mph

the intimidator

Dale earnhardt Sr. was an American professional stock car driver and racing team owner, who raced from 1975 to 2001 in the former NASCAR Winston Cup Series (now called the NASCAR Cup Series), most notably driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. His aggressive driving style earned him the nicknames "the Intimidator", "the Man in Black" and "Ironhead"; after his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. joined the Cup Series circuit in 1999, Earnhardt was generally known by the retronyms Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Sr. He is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history and named as one of the NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers class in 1998

Builders note:This is pretty old car at this point, and just want to release it. Was a pretty fun project and learned some new things about modeling that I incorporated into my next projects. Next one will probably be my 50k special, and might get uploaded later this week. Did a better job on the interior and actually really like how it turned out. Dale Sr. Is one of the greats and was so happy to get to build one of his cars. I might eventually make his 1998 daytona winning car. Hope you enjoy this little piece of history!

keep looking to the stars

I can remember when Daniel Ricciardo drove this car in the 2021 US Grand Prix.
Also, great build! NASCAR and other motorsports deserve some recognition on this site.
