Hawker Siddeley AV-8A Harrier

39.6k maverickvii  9.1 years ago

The Hawker Siddeley Harrier, known colloquially as the "Harrier Jump Jet", was developed in the 1960s and formed the first generation of the Harrier series of aircraft. It was the first operational close-support and reconnaissance fighter aircraft with vertical/short takeoff and landing (V/STOL) capabilities and the only truly successful V/STOL design of the many that arose in that era.

Recommend 35-40% thrust for vertical takeoff

AV8A is the American name when they bought Britains harriers but this one has British markings so it's a harrier mk5

@Starexcelsior the 1154 was essentially the 1127/harrier's big brother.

Looks more like a P-1154 which was essentially an f-35 with no stealth

This is by far the most stable and easy to fly VTOL on SP. I even managed to land it on the carrier on my first try. Top marks.

I didn't know about it either until Authros (or Scriefers, not really sure) mentioned it on some other plane ages ago.

@Wahoo12 I'll be honest, had never heard of that before, had to google. Reminds me a bit of the Yak 38. I'll add it to the list.
