Lohner L

2,113 Turdy1  8.2 years ago

Developed just before the First World War, the two seat Lohner Type L would become a highly successful flying boat. It would be the first aircraft to be used in the war when one preformed an observation flight over Montenegrin artillery positions. Two others would sink the French submarine Foucault in 1915. When one fell into Italian hands, the design was copied as the Macchi L.1.

Note: It's actually a bit overpowered, as the original design's top speed of 65 mph isn't fast enough to get this one off the water. That being said, it's no stunt plane. It might reach 90mph depending on how you fly it, but with the ailerons not being too effective, tight maneuvers are best avoided. In any case, dogfighting would be difficult as the gun is in front of the observer, rather than the cockpit.
