North American P-65A Coastal Defender
The North American P-65 is a short-range turn fighter armed with 6x 12.7mm Browning machine guns. After Germany's reform after World War 2, air pirates started appearing all over the world, especially the North Atlantic around Europe's coast. The pirates would typically attack cargo & civilian planes and ships. Most of these attacks were near the coast, so Bell decided to make an aircraft made for shooting down pirate planes near the coast to allow ships and aircraft to leave France safely. The plane was in service from a short 1946-1949 and would be replaced by superior aircraft like the Focke-Wulf Fw 242 and Supermarine Spirit. During its service, numerous complaints from pilots emerged, the most frequent being difficulty aiming and landing. However, it got numerous compliments from mainly German and French pilots about how it could outturn early Spitfires and Hurricanes, which were being used the most by pirates in the late 40s.
