***Thanks to the SP community for the unanticipated level of support on my P-38 last week, pushing me over the Silver threshold. You motivated me to work on another replica aircraft, this time stepping further back in time to the previous World War***
The iconic Fokker Dr.I at 1:1 scale dressed in the colors of the infamous Manfred von Richthofen, more commonly known as "The Red Baron." The German Ace achieved an unprecedented 80 confirmed kills, 19 of which were in this aircraft.
Look closely, the Red Baron himself makes an appearance in the cockpit.
About the aircraft (Wikipedia):
The Fokker Dr.I (Dreidecker, "triplane" in German) was a World War I fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.I saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became renowned as the aircraft in which Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories, and in which he was killed on 21 April 1918.
About the pilot (Wikipedia):
Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (2 May 1892 – 21 April 1918), also widely known as the Red Baron, was a German fighter pilot with the Imperial German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) during the First World War. He is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories. Originally a cavalryman, Richthofen transferred to the Air Service in 1915, becoming one of the first members of Jasta 2 in 1916. He quickly distinguished himself as a fighter pilot, and during 1917 became leader of Jasta 11 and then the larger unit Jagdgeschwader 1 (better known as the "Flying Circus"). By 1918, he was regarded as a national hero in Germany, and respected and admired even by his enemies. Richthofen was shot down and killed near Amiens on 21 April 1918. There has been considerable discussion and debate regarding aspects of his career, especially the circumstances of his death. He remains perhaps the most widely known fighter pilot of all time, and has been the subject of many books, films and other media.
About the build:
Ironically, though this is the most primitive aircraft I've worked on, this plane took more time to build than any other project I've done by a factor of two. The focus was on accuracy to the original in shape and scale, while maintaining an acceptable level of handling in-game. The tail and iron cross symbols were real buggers. I hope you enjoy flying it as much as I enjoyed building it. Cheers!

@T800 Uhh,meh is not hitler, and hitler was not Germany’s dictator at the time, nor any high rank, he was just a soldier.
Kill hitler

Thanks for your support and/or participating in my poll when trying to decide whether to make the Albatross DIII or the Fokker Dr.I. I hope you guys enjoy it.
Ladies and gents, I'm attempting to upload a mobile-friendly version (beta wheels removed, trim disabled, etc.) but it's telling me it still requires beta. I'd love to share this aircraft with the mobile/tablet community as well, any tips would be appreciated.
