diy: railgun (railgun challenge)
here's how to make a model railgun that actually works. the diagram is color coded for simplicity. legend: green: projectile(small metal rod with magnets on both ends) light grey: strip of tinfoil or copper, these are the actual rails, red and blue are wires, cyan is the battery(two nine volt batterys hooked up in a sequence), and brown: cardboard or wood. scale: one block = one inch. glue the tin foil strips to the cardboard as shown in the diagram making shure no edges are lose. connect the wires to the two strips of foil as shown in the diagram. connect the wires to the two nine volts. now connect a magnet to each end of the metal rod. the magnets must touch the middle of the strips so that when line up the rail setup looks like this: ®[---]® (®= magnet, ---= metal rod). the projectile should roll down the rails with a few sparks being generated along the way. PARENTAL SUPERVISION IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
