KSS Herzog Jakob is a Equestrian nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine and the lead ship of the Herzog class ballistic missile submarines. She was named after Duke Jakob of Sonnenlicht. She served for the Royal Equestrian Navy and currently in service for the Royal Sovereign Navy.

The appearance of Jakob and her sisters during the UN-SA War sparked conspiracy among the US and Russian politics, accusing the Russians that they allied themselves with the Southern Alliance. Due to their appearance, NATO gave them the reporting name of Delta V.

The Royal Equestrian Navy and the Royal Government were less interested in submarine warfare and mostly put force into surface warfare. However,
The Senior Admirals who served formerly in Submarine Service know the importance Submarines in warfare. Under the Befehl der Tiefseestreitkräfte, the Royal Equestrian Navy were able to build and commission new submarines.

Development

The Royal Equestrian Navy and The Royal Government were less interested in Submarine Warfare and mostly put all the project into Surface Force. The Senior Officers who formerly served for the Submarine Forces of the Royal Equestrian Navy however gave information on what's the importance of Submarines in both defensive and offensive missions. With the information, The Admiralty decided to acquire at least 30 submarines in different class' in order to make their submarine force flexible. The Submarines currently in service were also aging at the time they decided to acquire new submarines. The Government gave authorization but ultimately reduce the intended target to 15 new submarines. Because of the decision, The Admiralty and The government debated. But the King, Freiheit II, a former Submarine Commander settled the debate and decided to let the Navy build the intended target they needed. This ultimately led to the creation of Befehl der Tiefseestreitkräfte which solidify the construction of 50 new submarines for the Navy, ultimately surpassing the original target of the Navy.

The development of Herzog class were controversial. Since they carry nuclear weapons, the Government thought that having a Ballistic Missile Submarine will led to a great hypocrisy towards the public. The Navy too, thought that Ballistic Missile Submarines will give away the non-aggression policy that both the Armed Forces and Government pursued since the beginning of the Kingdom of Equestria. It is planned that additional Prinzessin class will replace the slot of the future Ballistic Missile Submarines, however the idea was scrapped and former submarine officers came up with an idea. They were to be used only in war time situation to bombard deep in land located structures while concealed from enemy patrol or detection.

A ballistic missile submarine is a submarine capable of deploying submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) with nuclear warheads. They can fire missiles thousands of kilometers from their targets, and acoustic quieting makes them difficult to detect, thus making them a survivable deterrent in the event of a first strike and a key element of the mutual assured destruction policy of nuclear deterrence.

Great Country Ballistic Missile Submarines were no different from Seven Continents' Ballistic Missile Submarines. Due to the offensive capabilities of these submarines, only few countries operate them.
