RJ-21 Sabaton
RJ-21 Series.
The RJ-21 Sabaton is a low capacity business jet, powered by three biofuel engines, thus allowing for a comparatively low operating cost compared to other “Bizz-jets” like the Dassault 10/100 and 20/100 or the Hawker 4000. The RJ-21 serves with many nations, including the RLI, as a light VIP transport and trainer under the name RJ-21 Samurai. A twin engine and stretched version is being marketed as a competitor to smaller propeller driven craft as well.
Development History: The RJ-21 (Then known as Project Lovely) was designed as a way for IoQFA to break into the smaller aircraft market, previously being known for their heavy bombers and military grade combat aircraft. The last craft designed by IoQFA for the civilian market was the P-3 variant known as the Ocelot. This craft was a commercial failure, however it did spark interest from many military customers leading to the long line of successful -3 variants. The RJ-21 was designed from the ground up to work in both civilian and military markets. This meant that it had high redundancy, being able to fly on just one of it’s three engines, and survive the fuselage mounted engine exploding, notably still retaining full control, just a severe loss in power and aerodynamic stability. The unique trijet, with one fuselage mounted and the other two in overwing pods was due to the requirement for the craft to land at unpaved and unprepared airstrips, with the chance of FOD (Foreign object damage) being reduced severely by the engine layout. The requirement for a shorter takeoff length led to the canards, which also add to the redundancy of the craft, having 6 backup systems in case of a main hydraulic failure including those connected to the canards. The three surface layout also allows for higher maneuverability at lower speeds in theory.
Instability: While the RJ-21 has a theoretical high maneuverability at low speeds, The early prototype had an inherent instability, which perplexed designers as it seemed to lose lift and enter a flat spin seemingly at random. This led to a redesign of the wing, and weighting changes leading to a more stable design. This led to a reduced maneuverability but increased survivability.
Service history:
The RJ-21 is being marketed to many nations, including Warburg and the Saltwater Carrier Nation. With the RLI the craft has received a lot of praise from many plots for being quite reliable. Most exploits of the RJ-21 fleet are classified, however as information is declassified it will be added here. The IoQFA Investor Protectorate (IIP) also uses the RJ-21 for covert operations and VIP transport.
Controls:
AG1: Activates air brakes, only to be used when on ground due to severe drag causing nose down tendencies.
AG2: Activates the two access doors, with VTOL opening one and Trim the other. (Literally just to allow trimmable elevators.)
AG3-7: Unused on the base model.
AG8: Engines, lights, and control surfaces.
Crew: 2 (Pilot, Co-Pilot)
Capacity: 10 passengers or 9.000 lbs of cargo.
Variants:
Training and Light Transport Craft:
Search and Rescue:
Anti-Shipping Warfare:
Command and Control, ELINT, and Drone control:
