INTRODUCING THE...

Royal Aircraft Factory: Farman Experimental no.1

-By, PlanesOfOld-

SO...….MANY...……..WIRES

VERY IMPORTANT FLYING GUIDE

-Takeoff Procedure-

  • Takeoff in this aeroplane is quite tricky, one should always be alert so you can keep the plane on course.

  • The plane tends to veer left on takeoff (not entirely sure why) but its quite easy to counter by using the rudder (yaw).

  • Be warned the plane will jump up into the air quite suddenly and may take a new pilot by surprise.

  • Taking off into a slight wind (5mph) shortens the takeoff run even further but you may want to turn off wind after you are in the air as it makes maneuvers a bit dicey.

  • A tail wind is not advisable.

-In Flight-
[For flying on PC I highly recommend using the mouse aim controls.]

  • First off turning in this plane is very different to say one of those fancy new jets. The most effective sort of turn in this plane is a flat turn.

  • Flat turning is achieved in this plane with a simple process, although you mustn't do a flat turn unless you are above 45mph as the plane may stall. Here is how to do a right turn:
Step.1: roll right very gently until you are in a shallow bank
Step.2: yaw right 100% simultaneously roll left 100% till the plane turns
    Step.3: now correct your course

-Landing Procedure-

  • Landing this is a piece of cake.

  • Do not brake

  • You cant mess it up unless you brake and do a nose-over

-COMBAT-

  • Only a madman (or an idiot) would try to use this plane for combat.

-THIS BUILD-
Well this was a fun one, although I don't think I've ever wanted to smash my computer more than when I was putting the wires on this plane.

-HISTORY-
This was Geoffrey De Havilland's first successful design, His first design although flyable ended up being crashed on its first flight. He salvaged the DH Iris engine from the 'biplane no.1' (inventive name) and immediately began designing a second plane named yes, you guessed it the 'biplane no.2'

Biplane no.2 followed the design of the successful Farman III Biplane
It took its first flight in September 1910.

In 1910 shortly after the first flight De Havilland got a job as an assistant designer and test pilot at the Army Balloon Factory, Farnborough (ABF was later renamed to Royal Aircraft Factory or RAF for short) The War office bought De Havilland's plane for £400 (£45,761 or $60,206 in todays money)

It was then given the official designation of F.E.1 (Farman Experimental 1)

It was used to train several pilots at Farnborough until it crashed in the summer of 1911

ENJOY! :D

IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED IF YOU LEAVE A COMMENT! AND AN UPVOTE

I like your profile picture, it has a nice Santa in it.
Your name is good too. Wireless aircraft.
What I wouldn't do to make wireless aircraft.

Cocoa pop and Cheerios fine sir.

@EternalDarkness You probably wont be impressed, my custom wings look bloomin awful lol! I shall have to practice a bit. But still I wouldn't be putting them on all my builds

@PlanesOfOld if that is so, then by all means keep using stock wings. I understand they have an advantage of keeping the part count somewhat lower. I would still love to see your skill on custom wings sometime in the future.

@EternalDarkness I really don't like how fuselage wings look, Its a personal preference. Anyway it all depends on the build.

    @PlanesOfOld platinum.
Custom airfoil is easy for WW1 planes. You've seen it on mine. It only took a few minutes to make.

@PlanesOfOld no problem. But you ought to start using custom airfoils. These are unsuitable for your level.
