[FSF] F9R Tango Mod.13
"Tango Model 13"
It's actually the 13th modification made to the Tango's design. In terms of functional variants, this is the 4th.
A reiteration
of the first FSF plane, the F9R Mod.13 improves on the original Tango in virtually every aspect. The armor is just a little better (particularly the windshield), it's slightly faster and more agile, and its HMGs have been replaced by 20mm cannons, giving the Tango four of the explosive weapons. However, the Mod.13 also adds flares and airbrakes. The flares allow the Tango to contend with missile-armed aircraft significantly better, while the airbrakes make landings easier. Other than that, though, not much has changed except for a slightly new livery on this Tango.
Trivia
-Technically speaking, the F9R Mod.13 is the second ever FSF aircraft, being built right after the original (I modified the F9R to make the F9R Mod.13)
-I wanted the Tango to be both stronger yet stay balanced at the same time, so I kept the weaker, balanced Tango and upgraded into the stronger Mod.13
-In terms of the lore, the F9R's later models (from Model 13 to 34) were so popular among pilots for its performance and crews for its low maintenance difficulty and cost that it served up until 2016 (guess what else was flying in 2016 which may be affiliated with the Tango's retirement). During its long career, it fought in the Korean War, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and several more. Some were even used as "bait jets" during the Cold War, diverting the attention of Soviet air defenses to allow U-2 spy planes to pass through unharmed, but improving air defenses combined with the SR-71's capabilities would make this method obsolete.
-Although the F9R as a whole has taken plenty of losses, the Model 13 specifically only ever took three losses to enemy cause: one downed by flak, one was written off after severely damaged by MuG-2s and MiG-17s (it made it back home, but literally collapsed on landing), and the third one- the only Model 13 ever truly shot down by an aircraft- was forced down by J28A Vampires when intruding into Swedish airspace without warning. However, later investigation discovered that lack of communication from the F9R was caused by said F9R's lack of a pilot. Weirder so, the pilot clearly didn't eject based on remaining buttons, canopy, etc., so it remains a mystery to this day exactly what happened.
