"TriSpoiler" - Snakeye-ish low-part, fin-retarded high-drag bomb pack v1.0

27.3k Kendog84  yesterday

*Plane NOT included!
*A-6 coming soon... Hopefully!

*Make sure you use the right version! If you want to mount 2 racks, use "DUAL", and if you want 3 racks, "TRIPLE", and so on!

BM-82 / BM-83

"TriSpoiler"

TriSpoilers are (fictional) fin-retarded high-drag bombs, based on real-life SnakeEye high-drag bombs. (They are called retarded/retarder bombs as opposed to regular "dumb" bombs.)
Once dropped, they automatically deploy drag-fins to slow down, so you can escape the blast radius even in slower planes.

Comes in two types: 500lb and 1000lb. 500lb version is pre-loaded on 6-bomb ejector-racks (MER), and 1000lb version in singles.
Great for low-altitude precision bombing, or for blowing up a long strip of stuff such as a convoy.
Tons of fun! (in a videogame!)

Features:

-Low part, mobile friendly* (7 parts per bomb for 1000lb, 43 parts per rack for 500lb version (with 6 bombs+rack))

-Individually dropped, like regular bombs.

-Adjustable rate-of-release (RoF)* (instruction included with bomb)

-Easy installation on your airplane of choice. No more (not much) "Oh no, it's stuck on landing gear! Oh gosh! Now it's falling apart!" thing you may have experienced.

-With 500lb version, you can choose racks in a single, double, triple, or quadruple configuration.
Meaning... you get 24x 500lb bombs max (that you can drop individually). Wow. (WOW)

-Ejector racks are kind of a special builds also. They are basically a 1:1 scale "replica" of real life US MER (multiple ejector rack). I took care and made sure they are durable & don't get stuck on things: basically, only the top surface of connector (black cube, rear) can be attached to other blocks, in this case your plane's pylon/weapon station.
Since these are heavy, I recommend you set your plane's pylon mass to 4 at least.

Part Count:

1000 lb BM-83 (Mk83 equivalent)

-7 parts (6 without label)

500 lb BM-82 (Mk82 equivalent)

-5 parts per bomb
-Each 6x 500lb bombs come with a 13-part ejector rack, so parts-count per set (6x bombs) = 43 parts.
If you load your plane with 4x 6-bomb racks, it's 172 parts total extra (of which 120 parts will be dropped).

How do they work?

500lb BM-82:

Each rack has bars attached to the top, which are actually cannons. When you select & fire "BM-82 HD", you are firing these cannons. Each bomb (their detacher & airbrake fins) have unique FT which says "activate when the cannon ammo is below X", so when you fire the cannon, bomb releases and drag fin deploys. Since I wanted to make them drop individually, one by one, each bomb & its fins/detacher needed to have unique FT each. So (for dual racks) bomb no.1 drops when cannon ammo is below 12, no.2 when cannon ammo below 11, and so on. Free fall version works the same way basically, except it doesn't trigger the fins. I also wanted to synchronize the ammo for both high-drag and free-fall mode cannons, but solutions I tried didn't work well. I was, at least, able to make them so the ammo for free fall cannons decrease (somewhat) as you drop bombs in high-drag mode.

1000lb BM-83:

This version works differently to the 500lb version (somewhat).
Main issue with this version was that, since they lacked the ejector racks, I didn't know how many bombs people would have on a plane, and in what configuration. And that means I wouldn't be able to control which bomb drops first, second, etc. So, instead of making each bomb/detacher/fins trigger in a pre-determined order, it had to trigger the fins of a bomb that's being released. And this is done via the cannon inside each bombs.
You can see a bar extending out of the nose: that bar is the cannon. But unlike with BM-82, you don't fire these cannons (you can't). Each cannon has a unique name, "Deploy 1", "Deploy 2" and so on (they are set to Air to Air, and activate only when you select BM-83 HD: meaning you cannot fire them). They work as a sort of unique-ID. When a bomb is released, that cannon (which has single ammo each) gets detached from the main body/cockpit of your plane, and "dies". Which causes the ammo count to go to 0. And when the ammo count of the cannon is 0, corresponding fin deploys. Trouble with this method is that, well, it adds a lot of clutter to the Air To Air weapons list... but this seemed like, and still seems to be, the best solution to make these bombs usable on any plane (that I could think of).

    If anyone has a difficulty connecting bomb or bomb rack to a correct pylon, here's what helps:
    1)first, hide the pylon(s) using visibility button. (Eye button)
    2)second, reverse visibility (another eye button), so you see only the pylons you just hid.
    3)third, get the thing as subassembly like normal, and put it on your pylon. It shouldn't stick to other blocks, since you only have the pylons visible.

    -A-6 (with the bombs) coming soon... maybe. (hopefully!)
    .
    -There will be a triple-bomb-rack version of the 500lb ones at some point.
    .
    -I can't say when I can publish it, but I'm working on even more mobile friendlier version of these bombs, with just 2x fins each. (That's 4 parts per bomb, and if you mount 4x of the 500lb version (24 bombs), that'll be a reduction of 48 parts.)

    What would be really cool is to go along with this the Soviet high drag bombs with the actual parachutes

    @SuperSuperTheSylph
    You are welcome:)
    Yeah, once I had the basic FT and setup created, this became doing the same FT editing 24 times (+ many revisions) and manually attaching tiny detachers to the pylons on the racks, as they didn't want to connect automatically. At least it's half the effort with triple racks.

    @Kendog84 thank you man <33
    honestly it is simple to do
    yet tedious because you need to setup the pylons and many airbrakes

    So you figured it out, cool!
    I can probably upload the rack later today. Will ping you in the comments when I do:)

    Hey, you can do it :)
    It takes like 5 minutes at most. Just need to save, save as subassembly, and put this on your plane. Bam!

    Yes, it's just a term used in military aviation. Now, let's have more interesting discussions here, thank you!

    2. well maybe i should wait,i do not wanna make you tired or whatever,plus i might figure it out on my own(which i did),just gimme the triple rack

    3. you should name one w 2 airbrakes BiSpoiler lol

    @SuperSuperTheSylph
    I do already have a triple ejector rack (nearly identical to the 6 bomb version), and do plan to make a pack with these too, though. I can upload the triple rack just by itself if you like, but if you can wait long enough I'll probably do the work and publish it. (Plan on doing it in the same config as this: single, dual, triple and quad)

    Yeah, I tried to come up with ways to prevent it, but I couldn't. Not without making it incredibly complex, which was the opposite of my aim.
    And as for triple racks, no, unfortunately you can't just save single bombs and do it. Every one of these bombs (their fins+detacher) have unique FT inside to control release and fin deployment. Basically, when you "fire" these bombs, you are actually firing the cannons (orange/black bars) on each rack, and the change in their ammo count triggers the release/deployment of the bombs. So you'll have to manually pick the right bomb, as well as change the ammo count of the cannon manually. It's not hard, but incredibly time consuming and tedious (I should get a medal for doing it for all 24 (or 42) of these bombs! lol)

    @Kendog84 btw
    could a single bomb be saved as a subassembly so it could be mounted on a 3-rack(for the F-16 for example)without issues?

    @Kendog84 sure i do :)) waiting for the Intruder

    Ahhh. If you are looking for interior, mine has even less than his (mine has a static bomb reticle and pretty much nothing else).
    I might add a few more buttons for touch-screen control's sake, but probably nothing more, as interior tends to be least of my priorities. You can add interior if you want to though.
