F2N-1 “Vortex”
The F2N-1 Vortex was an attempt at a carrier based fighter by an American company during the second world war. As expected, it was not accepted into service since the hellcat was already proving itself a legend. With that said, it did have a short life aboard the USS Randolph in 1944, and some airframes gained aerial victories over Japanese carrier aircraft and reconnaissance aircraft.
The F2N-1 Vortex was powered by the improved Pratt and Whitney R-1830-94 pushing out around 1850hp. This meant the Vortex had the power to quickly accelerate, and coupled with the good low speed handling, it was looked at for service with new form of smaller escort carriers that couldn’t support larger and heavier aircraft for action in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The firepower of the Vortex is lacking when compared to other US carrier based fighters, having only four .50 cal M2 Browning machine guns. With that said, the performance allowed for a lot of time on a target to get hits in.
The flight manual for the Vortex is found in game, and details the cockpit, and basic procedures for operating and handling the aircraft.
All of the history is fictional, and the aircraft is of my design. This has been my most detailed build yet as I have had to switch devices because the last update meant I can no longer run it on my old device I was using because I didn’t want to buy it again. At least now I can run a 700 part build now. On top of that, I can use the blueprint feature and add a custom thumbnail, but I don’t understand it enough to have multiple pictures, so my next build will probably have more than just the title. I did want to add a more detail cockpit with wires, framing, pipes, and even bolts, but I felt that there are enough details for my style of building, and being a person who had to see a bunch of cool builds knowing that I could never play them, I think performance can beat detail sometimes.
