The first bomber to be used by the government of Wright Island to defend against possible rebel sea-borne landings, the Simple Islands Defender, Attack Bomber-Ia was the first bomber to be widely used by all of the Simple Islands. Designed for use as an attack bomber to strafe rebel assault troops and to attack landing ships, the S.I.D. AB-Ia carries twin fuselage-mounted, downward firing machine guns as well as a single defensive gun mounted in the turret behind the cockpit. In addition to the standard load, it was most common to carry up to 8 rockets mounted to the outward-most wing struts, and 2 250lbs bombs near the lower wing root. Utilizing armor-on-frame construction, all panels covering the exterior of the aircraft that were damaged could be replaced, particularly the bottom portion of the fuselage. Beloved by the crews that flew them for thier ability to continue flying after suffering massive amounts of damage, the AB-Ia became more commonly known as the "Methuselah", or the "Tough Old B****". The camoflage on this aircraft belongs to the 2nd Wright Is. Guards Squadron, the nose art indicates that this aircraft belonged to Flying Lieutenant (Captain) Don Keye Hoatte. Take-off speed is 88 mph, laden top speed in level flight is 112mph, un-laden top speed in level flight is 118mph, stall speed is 73mph. AG-1 for the engine/ strafing guns. AG-2 for the turret (throttle/ brake for left/ right traversing, VTOL for up/ down.
