Country of Origin: United States
Role: Technology Demonstrator and Research Aircraft
Crew: 2
Livery: USAF Dark/F-15E Generic Livery

-Description-

The McDonnell Douglas F-15 STOL/MTD (Short Takeoff and Landing/Maneuver Technology Demonstrator) is a modified F-15 Eagle. Developed as a technology demonstrator, the F-15 STOL/MTD carried out research for studying the effects of thrust vectoring and enhanced maneuverability. The aircraft used for the project was pre-production TF-15A (F-15B) No. 1 (USAF S/N 71-0290), the first two-seat F-15 Eagle built by McDonnell Douglas (out of 2 prototypes[2]), the sixth F-15 off the assembly line, and was the oldest F-15 flying up to its retirement. It was also used as the avionics testbed for the F-15E Strike Eagle program.[3] The plane was on loan to NASA from the United States Air Force.

This same aircraft would later be used in the F-15 ACTIVE ("Advanced Control Technology for Integrated Vehicles") from 1993 to 1999, and later in the Intelligent Flight Control System programs from 1999 to 2008.

While with NASA, the aircraft's tail number was 837; for the Quiet Spike program and Research Testbed it was 836, and 835 was used for the Highly Integrated Digital Electronic Control (HIDEC) program. The aircraft is now on display at Edwards AFB.

-Author’s Notes-
- Fuel and gun ammo is unlimited.
- On takeoff, I recommend 50% trim with 100% flaps. Get to around 280 km/h and give slight taps for the pitch to avoid tail striking. (For keyboard users)
- I recommend having a little upwards VTOL, especially at lower speeds.
- At high AOA, roll input affects yaw maneuvering by inducing it in the opposite direction (Rolling right will cause left yaw and vice versa) but this will be useful for the falling leaf maneuver.
- To perform a cobra maneuver, slow to 680 km/h, throttle to military power/afterburner (if you haven’t already) activate Overpitch, and pitch up if you wish for a cobra far past 90 degrees AOA. Apply taps of upwards pitch as you level out and deactivate Overpitch to slow down the nose leveling out.
- To perform a falling leaf maneuver, slow to 600 km/h and activate Overpitch while you pull up and apply left or right roll to induce a spin in the opposite direction. To recover, disable Overpitch and roll with the spin until you stop stalling. Warning: You may be significantly lower than where you started.

  • NOTE: This is my first ever upload! I just had to because I was having too much fun after putting the canards on the Strike Eagle, basically couldn't help myself and wanted to add this to SimplePlanes' growing roster of supermaneuverable aircraft, even if it does need some work. I hope all those who download enjoy!
