Not very well known the P-43 Lancer was a decent high altitude fighter, it was the only fighter cabable of catching the Japanese Ki-46 Dinah reconaissance plane at the speeds and heights at whcih it flew, it flew many recon missons until being replaced by the P-38 F-4/F-5, it did also see combat in China but didn't fully replace the P-40 in service there
