Based on a little Meccano plane model I have at home. Yes its slow but handles really well however when landing, have the nose pointing as far up as possible without stalling as the plane may flip over on touchdown. Same thing kind of goes when braking, use momentum braking (letting the plane's wieght slow itself down) and then when slow enough (50MPH or so) only 'dab' the S key as that provides sufficient braking. Anyways, enjoy this little gem and long live Meccano!
